T 2017 SUNSHINE COAST REUNION  INFORMATION

Question from Member;

I understand the problem with the Surf life Saving Championship and August but why do we have to have it at Maroochydore? Surely there are other places near that will not be affected by the Championships? 2017 is a long way off and the Sunshine Coast is a long way for members to travel, especially as we are all getting a bit older!

Why not somewhere else?

Response from Sunshine Coast 2017 Committee

Hi Peter,

Just to answer your concerns. The National committee said it was Queensland’s turn and asked if we would organise the next reunion with the view of 2 or 3 years. Ron Kratzmann, Don Grimley and myself said we would put something together as no one else had volunteered.

Knowing that the basic requirements was accommodation for 80 to 90 caravan sites (88 sites were booked at Victor Harbour) plus extra accommodation of motels and hotels.  A venue that would hold 250 to 260 people in the one room. Also the topography comes into it because of the disabilities some members have with walking. The Cenotaph has to be a good site and easily accessible. Also other facilities such as shops, coffee shops, restaurants.

We looked at Coolum, Caloundra, Hervey Bay, Brisbane bay side areas north and south these did not meet the requirements and had no members residing in these areas to organised the Reunion so it was a no brainer.

Maroochydore was favoured because the size of caravan park has 350 sites, motels, and hotels all 300 to 400 meters from the RSL Club and  400 meters from the Cenotaph and there are numerous shops, coffee shops and restaurants close by. The RSL Club is a very good venue as it hold 500 people in one room. So as you can see Maroochydore meets all the necessary requirements.

As for the Sunshine Coast being to far Australia is a big country so it comes down to where you live.

Regards
